Student Led Initiatives

Did you know that the Senior School has over 60  co-curricular clubs!?

Students who are involved in clubs not only enhance their academic development and performance, they also build on important life skills such as leadership and organisation, while increasing their confidence and socialization.

This year we are featuring three Student Led Initiatives; two from current students and one from a 2023 grad! Please take a moment to read about their initiatives and remember to visit them at Marché to support their meaningful fundraising efforts!

Please also consider supporting the TFS Student Outreach Council. They support the North York Harvest Food Bank and will welcome all non-perishable food items!

Operation Smile
The goal of Operation Smile club is to raise awareness of cleft palate disease. As a group, we create opportunities to fundraise and reach Operations Smiles’ goal. At the same time, we want to provide a leadership experience to every member by allowing them to contribute and plan out ideas for fundraisers that will heavily impact those in need.

ACRE
Africa, Culture, Resources, Education
At the end of last year Neal, Tristan, and Annie began a student initiative with ACRE. So far, they have established a partnership with two orphanages in Lomé, Togo.  They collected books and educational materials that they hand delivered to the children in the summer!  This hands-on experience and personal connection has enabled them to better gauge the needs of the orphanages and this has led them a great need for clothing and supplies. The students also brought back artisan key chains made in Togo. They will sell them at Marché to fundraise the second part of their project. Please visit their table to learn more about their initiative, and to buy key chains!

“You Taught Me”
Written by TFS Class of 23’ Alumni, Talina Papazian, “You Taught Me” is an internationally sold children’s book that follows a group of six children as they paint, garden and blow bubbles. This illustrated story teaches young readers that everyone has valuable ideas, if only we take the time to listen.

Now sold in over 35 countries including retailers such as Indigo, Amazon and Barnes & Noble, 100% of the book’s proceeds are donated to Holland Bloorview Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.

Food Bank Drive

Every year the Outreach Council supports the North York Harvest Food Bank.  This year, they are kicking off their annual food drive at Marché!  Please support this initiative by bringing a non-perishable food item to Marché.
